Sage & Sarah
When my partner Leelou and I were travelling around America we stopped into Portland for a few weeks. This is where we met Sage and Sarah. The only thing that this couple knew about us was the little information that Harrison‘s (Sarah’s brother) relayed to them before our arrival. Despite our lack of of time spent together they put us up and looked after us, as if they had known us forever. People like Sage and Sarah inspire me in so many ways.
For Sage, this has been a life changing year, and I think it all started with him beating cancer. It is one of those experiences that makes you realise how little time we really have. These moments make you rethink what you spend your time doing and who you spend it with. Sage quit his day job to pursue freelance work and to live more for the moment. On top of this, this year also included moving house and marring his best friend.
Having me photograph something as special as this means more then I can put into words. It gave me so much to think about and I learnt so much from the both of them.
When I quit my day job to do full time photography, these are the experiences i was chasing. Something real. Stuff that would make me feel more alive.
I spent 4 days camping out in the Alvord desert with Sage and Sarah in the lead up to their wedding day. No wifi or distractions, just wild weather, camp fires, wine, stories, games, hot springs, friends and family. All these things made for one epic celebration of Sage and Sarah’s love for each other.
